Legends Game and Memorial Ceremony 2022

LEGENDS GAME

On Friday, October 7th, Kingsley Amateur Football Club will play a Legends Game to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the clubs first flag and to commemorate 20 years since the Bali Bombings.

In 2002, the Reserves team were the first Kingsley team to win a premiership flag. Club members flew to Bali for a post season celebratory trip only to be caught up in the Bali Bombings. The club lost seven of the twenty members in the bombings and have unfortunately lost two more since.

The survivors vowed to build a new clubroom in honour of the players who did not make it home. With the support of the community in both donations and labour, the Kingsley Memorial Clubrooms were built and the club donated the facility to the City of Joondalup to use for the community.

With the support of the City of Joondalup, the Legends Game will be held on the Friday night before the 20th anniversary of the Bali Bombings.

Sponsored by Dome Kingsley, the game will involve two teams of former players and club members vying to prove they still have it, or atleast think they do.

The festivities will commence at 5:30pm with bounce down at 7pm.

Half time will comprise of entertainment, kicking competitions and the Fitzroy Gift. The Fitzroy Gift is a handicap race from one side of the oval to the other that has become a Kingsley tradition. The initial race was named after one of the club’s team managers, nicknamed Fitzroy, who challenged the club’s two ruckmen to a race.

There will be food tucks, face painting and live entertainment from Monty Cotton along with multiple bars, including the famous Carlton Dry bar outside near the action. The Kingsley Juniors will be running a sausage sizzle to raise funds for their trip to Victoria.

The club is eternally grateful to the community for the support shown in the wake of the Bali Bombings and welcome anyone who would like to attend. The night will be as much about gathering to remember and reflect as it will be about football.
